Toastmasters International’s Competent Communication manual
contains 10 speech projects each focusing on a specific area, such as organizing your speech and using body language. An evaluator offers feedback on each of your speeches, helping you to improve. Earn a Competent Communicator award by completing all the speech projects in Competent Communication.
Project 1: The Ice Breaker
Introduce yourself to your fellow club members.
Project 2: Organize Your Speech
Organize your speech with a clear structure which includes an introduction, body and conclusion.
Project 3: Get to the Point
Clearly state the goal of your speech and reinforce your goal with every elements of your speech.
Project 4: How to Say It
Examine the use of word choices, sentence structure and using rhetorical devices which is easy to understand.
Project 5: Your Body Speaks
Using posture, stance, gestures, facial expressions and eye contact to enhances your message and credibility.
Project 6: Vocal Variety
Using voice volume, pitch, rate and quality to add meaning and interest to your message.
Project 7: Research Your Topic
Support the main points of your speech with statistics, testimony, stories, anecdotes, examples, visual aids and facts.
Project 8: Get Comfortable with Visual Aids
Using visual aids to reinforce the main points of your speech to the audience
Project 9: Persuade with Power
Persuade listeners to adopt your viewpoint or ideas or to take some action
Project 10: Inspire Your Audience
Inspire your audience to improve personally, emotionally, professionally or spiritually, replying heavily on emotional appeal.
Upon completing your ice break speech, you will be presented with The Ice Breaker ribbon.
Upon completing your 5th speech, you will be presented with the Halfway to Competent Communicator ribbon.
When you complete your competent communication manual, you will be presented with the Competent Communicator ribbon.
