“I joined Toastmasters in 2007 when I was studying at The University of Queensland, Australia. I have experienced the benefits of Toastmasters. Toastmasters has helped me to improve my public speaking and leadership skills. I have become confident to speak in public including being the Emcee on several events at work and community. The leadership skills learnt from Toastmasters helped me in managing projects, events, dealing with different stakeholders, supervising and giving people training. I love to develop people and see them grow. I am currently studying Korta vägen at LTU Business. Moving from Australia to Sweden has given me many opportunities including learning Swedish and establishing a Toastmasters Club. We are lucky as the club has great officers, members, and excellent teamwork.” LinkedIn

“The kiwi is said to be a bird which can’t fly. So how did a kiwi find its way to the opposite side of the globe all the way to North of Sweden? I have been with Luleå toastmasters since 2014. I have already experienced the benefits of toastmasters after only being in the club for a short amount of time. I am now a more confident public speaker and have improved every aspects of my leadership, management and communication skills.
In addition to being a better speaker, I have also gained other skills which includes emcee, time management and project management. These are skillsets I have gained as part of toastmasters which will be beneficial to me in the future.
I am currently working at Luleå University of Technology as a PhD researcher specializing in industrial automation. My research is based on substation automation systems, but my interest extends to material handling systems, SCADA systems and I do software development in my spare time. I am currently involved in the development of the AIC3 automation laboratory at LTU which will include demonstrators showing substation automation protection systems, SCADA systems, ABB robotics and material handling systems.
Moving from New Zealand to Sweden has given me an opportunity to experience life on the other side of the world, experiencing a completely new culture and meeting great people in Luleå. We have a great group of people at Luleå toastmasters working towards the common goal of making Luleå toastmasters the best club in Sweden.” LinkedIn
